About Us
Good.net is operated by Paxos and Praxis. We worked together at a company supporting a many-to-many communication website in a high-availability, high-I/O environment. We left that company to form Good.net in 2008.
We decide to enter the File Hosting realm with a different take. We have a more philosophical approach to file hosting and believe we can provide a technically superior hosting service.
Mission
Good.net believes that a free society depends on the free flow of Information. Our mission is to aid that information flow by providing the global citizen the tools they need to communicate their information to others.
Philosophy
Good.net views censorship of any kind a direct threat to a free society and will not participate in censorship voluntarily. Unlike other hosting providers, Good.net will not censor lawful content [1]. Good.net might not agree with what you upload, but if it is legal to upload in the United States we will host it for you. As Ian Clarke says in the Freenet faq, "The true test of someone who claims to believe in Freedom of Speech is whether they tolerate speech which they disagree with, or even find disgusting."
However, Good.net recognizes that we all live in a world of laws and that sometimes these laws run counter to the free flow of information. Good.net respects the rule of law and does not encourage, facilitate or induce anyone to violate such laws. However, unlike other hosting providers, Good.net will not disclose the identity of a user that has been accused of violating the law unless a court blesses the request [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. Even governments must abide by the law. Currently, Good.net has not been served an NSL.
We are dedicated to using and supporting Free and Open Source Software, Free and Open Information and Free and Open Standards to achieve our mission. This site would not be possible without the thousands of people who support, contribute and maintain open software, standards and projects like the Linux kernel, the Free Software Foundation's GNU Project, Perl, CPAN, PHP, MySQL, the Apache Software Foundation, the W3C, the IETF and many, many others that we rely on every day. Of course, we could just use closed and expensive software.
We would like to hear from you. As we are still building the service, tell us what features you want in a file hosting service.
